Congenital Dislocation of the Knee

  • uncommon
  • simple hyperextension to complete anterior dislocation of tibia on femur

Congenital Dislocation of the Knee Treatment

  • depends on severity and age at presentation.  Focus on non-op management with gentle stretching and serial casting = generally satisfactory results (KO, J Pediatr Orthop 19:252;1999)
  • consider early quadriceps recession fro complex congenital dislocations associated with underlying disorders such as arthrogryposis and Ehlers-Danlos (Roy, J Pediatr Orthop 9:717;1989)
