  • Spinal Stenosis with and without degenerative spondylolisthesis
  • Chronic discogenic low back pain

Contraindications

  • Lumbar instability
  • Pathologic fracture
  • Osteoporosis
  • Obesity
  • >25% spondylolisthesis
  • Scoliosis
  • Ankylosis of the involved segment

Alternatives

  • Epidural steroid injection
  • NSAIDs, physical therapy

Planning / Special Considerations

Technique

  • Pre-operative antibiotics, +/- regional block
  • General endotracheal anesthesia
  • position. All bony prominences well padded.
  • Examination under anesthesia.
  • Prep and drape in standard sterile fashion.
  • Irrigate.
  • Close in layers.

Complications

  • Implant disodgement
  • Spinous process fracture
  • Increased pain
  • Medical complications
