Distal Radius Fracture Case 1

38y/o RHD male sustained closed AO type A distal radius fracture sliding into base while playing softball. A/P injury film shown.

Underwent closed reduction in the emergency room. Placed into a well molded sugar tong plaster slint. Post reduction A/P view shown.
Post-reduction Lateral view.

Patient was followed with weekly xrays for 2-3 weeks.

  • 1 wk f/u: Sugar-tong splint was overwrapped to a short arm cast
  • 2wk f/u: Short arm cast was changed
  • 6wk f/u: Cast removed, ROM exercises started.

4 month f/u A/P view. Patient had symmetric wrist ROM and was painfree.
4 month f/u lateral view.
