Metacarpal Shaft Case 1

20y/o RHD male sustained displaced transverse metacarpal shaft fracture in a "fall." Physical exam demonstrated an abnormal cascade, but no open wound, and a sensate, well vascularized digit. A/P injury view shown.
Oblique injury view.
Lateral injury view demonstrates 60 degrees of apex dorsal angulation.
Patient wasa treated with ORIF using the Synthes mini-fragment set via a dorsal longitudinal incision 5 days after injury.
Oblique post-op view.
Lateral post-op view. Post-op patients was placed in an ulnar gutter splint. At his one week appointment he was placed in removed splint and given home ROM exercises. Continued stiffness noted at 5week f/u appointment was treated with formal occupational therapy with gradual return to full ROM and fracture healing.
